A weekly newsletter created by inquisitive minds for inquisitive minds
US college basketball’s “March Madness” is reaching a fevered pitch. Are you following the competition?
We heard a funny story about one office pool where the young IT guy tried using AI to help pick a winning bracket. Guess what? He’s currently in last place! Hmmm … just shows how unpredictable and exciting sports can be.
In this week’s edition, we’re exploring how AI is set to transform your doctor visits. Plus, we’ve got another must-try AI writing tool, an AI dating detective, and a high-tech way to binge-watch your backyard birds.
Let’s dive in!

Is your doctor using AI? The integration of artificial intelligence in healthcare is transforming medical consultations and coming to a doctor’s office near you.
Innovations such as Freed.ai, Deepscribe, and Nuance are paving the way for this change, becoming increasingly common in clinics and hospitals. These tools enable physicians to:
Draft personalized messages to patients, improving communication.
Take thorough notes during examinations, ensuring no detail is missed.
Organize and summarize health information, making it easier for both doctors and patients to review.
Imagine getting a digital note shortly after your visit that summarizes the consultation and provides a detailed account of your health status and care plan. This tech isn't just about making things faster; it’s about enhancing the quality of your care by ensuring your health information is precisely recorded and easily accessible.
And it’s not just about taking notes. This week, AI nurses hit the news - next time you get a pre-procedure call or a care manager checking on you, it could be an AI avatar.
While healthcare AI tools are being developed to incorporate safeguards against misinformation, there is still a critical need for doctors and their staff to review and verify AI-generated notes. To ensure transparency, practitioners should also educate patients about the use of this new technology.
As AI becomes more ingrained in medical practices, staying informed is vital. It’s clear we’re on the cusp of a new era of patient-doctor interaction, one where communication is not just clearer, but also more efficient and tailored to each person’s needs.

We do a lot of writing on a daily basis (can you relate?) -- which is why we’re always on the lookout for new AI-powered tools to improve or polish our work. We recently discovered Quillbot, a writing assistant with a user-friendly interface that makes navigating its features a breeze.
How it works: With Quillbot’s free version, you can copy and paste your content in the textbox and hit the paraphrase button. We tried it using some recent copy from our newsletter.
Our original sentence read: “Dreaming of your next getaway but dread the hassle of finding the best flights for your budget?”
Quillbot’s response: “Are you itching for your next vacation but detest the headache of locating the most affordable flights?”
You can also try Quillbot’s fluency option. Here’s our original sentence: “Online travel site Kayak has introduced an innovative AI feature to its mobile app, called PriceCheck, to streamline your search.”
Quillbot’s version: “Kayak, an online travel service, has added an innovative AI function called PriceCheck to its mobile app to help you narrow down your search results.”

AI For Good
In the digital age, finding love online comes with its own set of challenges, primarily the risk of encountering scammers, spammers, and not-so-charming frogs masquerading as princes. Thankfully, AI is here to lend a helping hand.
Here's a noteworthy example: Bumble, the popular dating app, recently introduced an AI-powered feature called the Deception Detector.
This innovative tool is designed to safeguard users from the darker sides of online dating, ensuring their search for love remains both safe and enjoyable.
Efficient and Smart: Leveraging a machine learning model, the Deception Detector scrutinizes the authenticity of profiles, working in tandem with human oversight to ensure a high level of accuracy.
Proven Effectiveness: In its trial phase, Bumble's new feature successfully blocked 95% of spam and scam profiles, with reports of unwanted accounts falling by nearly half.
Addressing User Concerns: With romance scams costing victims billions annually, Bumble’s initiative responds to a significant user concern, promising a safer platform for those seeking love.
Other players in the dating app scene, like Match Group, are also stepping up, introducing features and alerts to educate users on potential scam behaviors. This collective move towards safer online dating environments highlights an essential trend: technology's role in protecting and enhancing our social interactions online.
So, while you might still need to kiss a few frogs on your journey to finding 'the one', rest assured that AI is working tirelessly to make sure those frogs are at least real.
