ChatGPT Chatter
We love the holiday season! It’s a time of joy, laughter, and giving. But let's be honest, finding the perfect gift for family members, friends, and colleagues can often feel like you’re trying to solve a tricky puzzle.
This year, we’re turning to ChatGPT 3.5 (the free version) to take the pressure off and assist us with our holiday shopping list. (if you’ve already finished your holiday gift-buying, you can skip to the next story, but if you’re like us, you’re only just getting started!). We’ve got some tips on how to use GPT for better brainstorming.
Personalized Gift Ideas: Share a bit about the person you're shopping for, their interests, hobbies, and any special memories you share. You can limit the price.
Prompt: "I'm looking for a gift for my husband who loves camping and hiking. Can you suggest some ideas for $100 or less?”
Gift ideas for kids: Specify the child's age, interests, and any relevant details.
Prompts: “Generate gift ideas for a 5-year-old who loves dinosaurs.” "Suggest art and craft supplies for a 10-year-old who is creative and loves drawing." "Generate birthday gift ideas for an 8-year-old who is interested in space and science."
Gifts for Office Colleagues: If you're looking for office-appropriate gifts, ChatGPT can offer ideas that strike the right balance between professionalism and thoughtfulness.
Prompt: "I'm looking for thoughtful yet professional gifts for my coworkers in the office. What are some gift ideas for under $40 that are suitable for a professional setting but still show appreciation?"
Creative, budget-friendly gift ideas: If you’re looking to make gifts that are thoughtful and affordable for friends and family during the holiday season.
Prompt: "Generate 20 creative DIY holiday gift ideas that reflect the season and something I can make for under $30.
Hot tip: If the gift ideas aren’t what you’re after, trying re-phrasing the question or adding more detail to the request. It’s always a good idea to suggest a price range with your prompt so you can stay within your budget.
Happy shopping!
Mind-blowing AI
In preparing our newsletter, we’ve come across many fun and interesting AI-powered tools. Some are designed to make life easier, some to make it more enjoyable. Occasionally, we find one that could be truly transformational.
HeyGen is an astonishing, new way to ‘speak’ a foreign language.
How it works: Justin recorded a brief video (in English) on his laptop introducing our newsletter. He then called up the HeyGen website. He uploaded his video with one click, and picked the language he wanted. Within a few seconds, the video was translated, dubbed, and returned to us, with what is recognizably his own voice! Also, pay close attention: Justin’s lips have been altered to sync with each new language.
It's not a stretch to imagine that with a little more computing power, we will soon live in the world of simultaneous translation. Imagine FaceTime or WhatsApp with different languages on either side of the call, but with our own recognizable voices, and natural-looking lip movements.
While we’re waiting for that to happen, you can send a message to your French aunt or Portuguese grandfather in a language they’ll love!
The small print: HeyGen will let you try out the technology for free (as for these two videos) - look for the “Sign In for Free Credits” button on the top right. After that, $59/month will get you 30 minutes of video, with a max of 5 minutes each.

Productivity
Ever felt lost in the labyrinth of legalese when reading a contract or document? Trust us, you’re not alone! We’ve discovered an AI-powered “legal assistant” that can demystify all that jargon and give you an added edge before the clock starts ticking with an attorney.
DetangleAI is an ingenious tool capable of deciphering and rephrasing legal documents, transforming them into everyday language. Detangle states right up front on its website that it’s not meant to replace the advice of legal professionals, but it can help you spend less in legal fees.
How it works: Simply input documents from various sources like URLs, uploaded PDFs, or copied text. Then Detangle gets down to business, offering you:
A 1-2 paragraph summary of your legal document for instant clarity.
Simplified document blocks, eliminating legalese for easy understanding.
Upfront identification of money matters in your legal documents, saving you time and hassle.
Detection of potential issues and omissions hidden within dozens of pages with Detangle's quick scan.
AI-generated attorney-ready questions to streamline your legal conversations and save you time and money.
Bonus feature: The Detangle Favor Scale reveals which party has the upper hand and why, so you're never at a disadvantage.
Pricing is a flat fee and based on the length of the document (no accounts to sign up for or subscriptions). A typical 3-5 page document can be detangled for just $25. You can watch a quick 3-minute overview video on the home page and check out a couple of examples on the Detangle website here.
Worried about privacy? Detangle has you covered: on its website it states that all documents are fully encrypted using industry-standard (AES) encryption and your data is never sold to third parties.
