Retail shopping & dining in 2024

AI is transforming the way we shop and dine out, offering a more personalized and efficient retail experience. Here's how some major companies are using AI to enhance customer experiences:

  • StitchFix: Users provide their style preferences, sizes, and budget. The AI algorithm curates a personalized selection of clothing and accessories.

  • Sephora: Employs AI for personalized product recommendations and offers virtual makeup try-ons so customers can see how products look before buying.

  • H&M: Tested smart mirrors in fitting rooms that recognize products a customer is trying, including size and color. Provides personalized product and styling advice, and plans to introduce smart mirrors on sales floors for virtual try-ons and styling suggestions.

AI is already making its way into the fast-food industry, transforming retail dining by enhancing customer service, streamlining operations, and personalizing the dining experience.

Expect more chatbots instead humans when you place your driveup order at your local McDonald’s, Wendy’s, and Starbucks. In some locations, KFC is experimenting with AI facial recognition technology for payment processing and personalized menu suggestions. When it comes to upscale dining, AI is elevating the experience in several intriguing ways:

  •  Personalized Dining Experience: High-end restaurants use AI to remember guests' previous preferences, like favorite dishes or dietary needs, to customize the menu and recommendations during their next visit.

  • AI in Wine Selection and Pairing: AI tools assist in wine selection, analyzing a vast array of wine profiles to recommend the perfect pairings with diners' meals.

  • Sustainable Operations: Full-service restaurants employ AI for eco-friendly practices, such as monitoring energy use, minimizing food waste, and streamlining supply chain operations for sustainability.

While some of these advances will happen seamlessly with little fanfare, other innovations are set to become real game-changers. We’ll keep you up-to-date  on developments.

Our personal AI picks of 2023

We launched Here.Now.AI. to share knowledge and because we believe in AI's potential to improve our everyday lives. That’s certainly true for us! Here’s our take on the best tools and innovations of this past year.

Lori is a huge fan of ChatGPT and relies on it to enhance her writing, from refining sentence structure to creating concise bullet points. It’s especially helpful in crafting opening and concluding paragraphs. She also uses GPT for various tasks like brainstorming gift ideas, party planning, and even selecting paint colors for her home remodel.

Have you tried ChatGPT yet? All you need is a login and password for the 3.5 free version. What’s holding you back?

Justin loves the HeyGen video translator, which turns a video message into a foreign language version of him, with a recognizable voice and lips synced to the new language. He has enjoyed sending out holiday greetings in friends’ local languages, and is looking forward to exploring the AI translation space more in 2024, as translation speed gets faster and language barriers become a thing of the past.

If your messages are short, the HeyGen technology is free, and very easy to try.

Lisa found that the animated version of her grandmother Cecilia’s photograph by MyHeritage’s Deep Nostalgia provoked a lot of comments within the family and beyond, and was one of our most “clicked on” items (the feature has been used over 110 million times, and not all by Lisa). The reviews were generally positive, saying that the animation captured Cecilia’s flirty charm. Lisa is looking forward to seeing what 2024 brings as more animation tools come on stream almost every week.

Deep Nostalgia’s tool is free, and you don’t even need to log in to try it.
