AI Healthcare Selfies

Plus: precision prose & daring dress up

Apple is the latest Silicon Valley company to sign onto a sweeping US government order that establishes ground rules around AI development, testing, and transparency.

The tech giant joined 15 leading AI companies including Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft, and OpenAI in voluntarily committing to responsible AI innovation. The protocols include creating content labeling systems, such as watermarking, so users can tell what is and isn’t AI generated.

Let’s hope these government guardrails will stick.

In this week’s edition, we’ve got an innovative way to snap, scan, and simplify your healthcare, a peek into AI-powered investing intelligence, a new editing tool to sharpen your writing style, and a fashion flip sensation.

Let’s get started!

AI Health & Wellness

We understand the frustration of medication refills, scheduling appointments, and navigating the maze of insurance benefits. But what if we told you there’s a free app that can simplify many of these healthcare tasks? Together uses your smartphone camera and AI to eliminate these obstacles. The best part? No typing or data entry is required—just point, click, and AI will handle the rest.

Developed by a practicing physician, Together allows you (or a caregiver) to measure vital health stats like blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood oxygen level by taking a selfie. The selfie feature eliminates the need for clunky devices and batteries, allowing those with chronic conditions and their caregivers to monitor key vitals easily.

You can watch how the app works here.

Together also helps to manage prescriptions and doctor appointments. Snap a picture of your pill bottles and the app uses AI to identify your doctor’s name, and determine when you need refills and appointments.

Together uses voice AI to automatically call the doctor’s office, schedule the appointment, and add it to your calendar. When you leave the doctor—or dentist or optometrist—with an appointment card, just snap a picture.

Together immediately adds the appointment to your Google or iPhone calendar. Smile for a selfie and streamline your healthcare!

AI Investing

Navigating the complex world of investments requires both deep knowledge and careful analysis. Whether you're conducting financial research yourself or relying on an advisor, finding thorough, actionable insights can be challenging, especially with the flood of publicly available data.

Brightwave.io is an AI-powered platform that uses large language models and natural language processing to deliver comprehensive financial reports on stocks, industries, or sectors within seconds.

One of our team members, Justin, is a seasoned Wall Street expert in economics and strategy research. He recently spoke with Brightwave.io’s founder and CEO, Mike Conover.

Conover, a machine learning engineer, explained how their AI models examine financial data, producing insights and validating reports with remarkable efficiency. According to Mike, these AI-driven searches can analyze a wider array of past academic research and industry publications faster than any human.

Is this the end of the road for financial analysts? Conover compares the situation to the advent of VisiCalc in 1979. Accountants are still a crucial asset - they now focus on more strategic, higher-value tasks. AI tools like Brightwave.io don't replace the need for human expertise. Instead, they enhance it, allowing professionals to concentrate on the bigger picture.

AI Productivity

Are you looking for a good editor to improve your writing? We’ve been longtime fans of Grammarly to catch typos and grammatical hiccups, but if you’re looking for full-sentence rewrites, it can get pricey.

We recently discovered Hemingway Editor Plus, a useful web-based or desktop tool that’s a less expensive alternative. It’s designed to help you achieve clarity and simplicity, the keys to good writing. Hemingway detangles long sentences and turns the passive voice into an active one.

How it works: Hemingway’s algorithm makes color-coded suggestions.

  • Yellow: highlights long or complicated sentences. Hemingway recommends breaking them up or making them simpler.

  • Red: marks phrases that could be edited to be simpler.

  • Blue: points out adverbs that can often be omitted for stronger writing.

  • Green: These are instances of passive voice. Hemingway suggests ways to use the active voice for a stronger impact.

The tool is intuitive; just click "Fix it for me," and watch your sentences become sharper and more concise. Of course, it’s up to you to decide to accept or reject these changes, as some tweaks might feel like they’re stripping away your unique voice. It’s all about finding the right balance.

The cost? A reasonable $10/month or $100/year, with a two-week free trial (no credit card required).  The one big drawback: the web-based version doesn’t save your work, unlike Grammarly, which stores your edits for easy access later.

Hemingway Editor Plus is perfect for anyone, from students refining their essays to professionals crafting concise communications, and it's a boon for non-native speakers too.

AI Fashion

Last week, we had a little fun with Faceswapper, an AI tool that does exactly that. We took an unsuspecting photo of our team member Justin and swapped his face with a dashing young model from the Faceswapper website.  If you missed it, you can check out Justin's new side hustle as a heartthrob here.

This week, we’re giving a new Faceswapper app called Clothes Swap a try. We took a photo of team member Lori and swapped her coat and fleece with a white lace wedding dress. We had a chuckle with this one, too, because Lori has the added features of longer hair and a new, younger body!

How it works: Simply upload your source image, type in a prompt to name the style clothing you like, and let the AI do its thing.

The Clothes Swap app isn’t perfect; we tried swapping with a strapless red dress and got a black one instead. And, when we asked to swap with a polka dot bikini top …well, we’ll save that one for our personal collection!

Pro tip: make sure your face photo is clear and the only one in the shot —no photobombers allowed.

Photos are only stored for the face swap and vanish into the digital ether within 48 hours. No need to fork over sensitive info like your bank details or phone number.
