AI for Brainstorming

Plus: Job Hunting Tools and Cycling Safe Tech

School might be out for the summer … but here’s something we learned this week: while many Americans are still unsure about AI, it's catching on fast in education.

According to a recent poll by Impact Research, in just over a year, ChatGPT usage has surged, with 46% of teachers and 48% of K-12 students using it at least once a week. Student usage alone jumped 27 percentage points. We’re hoping AI will prove to be transformative in the classroom, and create a better learning environment for all.

In this week’s edition, we’ve got an AI brain boost, LinkedIn’s AI-powered job seeker tools, a smart bike light innovation, and striking the right music chords with AI.

Let’s dive in!

AI Bike Beacon

Biking can be dangerous when you’re sharing the road with other vehicles. Recent findings from the League of American Bicyclists highlight a troubling trend: hit-from-behind crashes are the leading cause of cycling fatalities.

Velo.AI Copilot is an AI-powered bike light designed to boost cyclist safety. Unlike traditional bike lights, Copilot doesn't just illuminate the road—it actively monitors it. Equipped with smart sensors, it identifies the size and shape of approaching vehicles, distinguishing between fellow cyclists and larger threats like cars and trucks.

Clark Haynes, CEO of Pittsburgh-based Velo, believes it's time for cycling to benefit from the advanced tech found in modern cars. “We wanted to flip that script and bring that tech to biking,” says Haynes. With Copilot, cyclists gain a "sixth sense" of their surroundings, enhancing their ability to react to potential dangers.

How It Works: Copilot changes its light color and pattern to capture a driver's attention when a vehicle is near. Riders receive audible alerts when a car is approaching or overtaking, and the built-in camera records the journey in case there’s an incident.

Check out Velo’s promo video to see Copilot in action.

You can pair Copilot with your smartphone for even more functionality. When mounted on your handlebars, your phone can display visual alerts, ensuring you stay informed on the go. The device supports both iOS and Android systems.

After a successful first run, Copilot is currently sold out, but eager cyclists can expect to shell out $399 when it’s back in stock. The future of cycling safety looks bright—literally and figuratively.

AI Creative Pursuits

Calling all musicians! Got a catchy tune you’re dying to learn how to play? Chord ai is an AI-powered mobile app that can automatically find the chords and beats of any song.

Chord ai is changing how musicians engage with music. From beginner guitarists to seasoned producers, the app offers the tools to elevate your musical skills. It’s your go-to for chord recognition, beat tracking, multitrack separation, and more.

How it works: With Chord ai, you can access your favorite tune by browsing SoundCloud, YouTube, or any audio and video files stored either on your device or in the cloud. It’s like having digital sheet music in your pocket. If you can read music, it’s a great way to learn the chords and follow the rhythm.

User spotlight: Team member Lori’s husband, Duane, has been experimenting with Chord ai and says what he likes best is the simplicity of having the various chords for your favorite song appear instantly in guitar tab form.

Another great feature is chord recognition in real-time using your device’s microphone. Whether it’s your own playing, your band, or a track on your device, Chord ai can identify the chords on the fly. It even lets you pause, navigate, replay, and save recordings, just like a voice memo app.

Chord ai is available from the App Store and Google Play. There’s a free version offering basic chord types and a pro version for more experienced musicians. With Chord ai, you're not just listening to music—you're mastering it, one chord at a time.
