AI Fact Checkers
In this politically charged season where our social media feeds are full of viral misinformation, fact-checking is more essential than ever. Snopes, the go-to site for debunking internet myths since 1994, has launched FactBot, its first AI-powered tool for fact-checking.
Developed in collaboration with the Cal Poly Digital Transformation Hub and Amazon Web Services, FactBot uses generative AI to provide accurate answers across a wide range of topics—from politics and news stories to viral social media posts and misinformation. The tool also aims to minimize the risk of AI “hallucinations”—the misleading errors that can occur when AI models stray from the facts.
Still in its beta phase, FactBot is now open to anyone eager to test it. We did just that, comparing it to Perplexity AI, another fact-checking bot. Our test case? Checking a long-standing conspiracy theory about military jets spraying chemicals over civilian areas.
FactBot delivered a concise summary and linked to five archived articles that debunked the claim. However, Perplexity AI's response was more comprehensive, detailing the rumor's origins, military responses, scientific explanations, and various debunking efforts, all backed by credible and diverse sources. For now, Perplexity seems to have the upper hand.
In an age saturated with information, the need for reliable sources has never been greater. Fact-checking tools like these are the latest defense against misinformation.

AI Dealmaker
What if AI could be your secret weapon in every negotiation? The Negotiator is a customized GPT that provides the tools and strategies to secure better outcomes for any deal. Whether it's a high-stakes contract, a new job offer, or a better rate on your next phone plan, The Negotiator has you covered.
How it works: The Negotiator simplifies the entire negotiation process, guiding you through a variety of scenarios with tailored strategies and practical tips. It helps you understand the nuances of your specific situation, sharpen your approach, and build confidence before you even step into the negotiating room.
We put The Negotiator to the test on a car purchase. The bot began by asking three key questions to understand our needs:
What type of car are you considering? (Make, model, new or used)
What’s your target price or budget?
Are you negotiating with a dealership, a private seller, or both?
Based on our answers, The Negotiator provided a three-step plan that included preparation, making the offer and closing the deal.
We also got advice on additional bargaining benefits such as extended warranties, free or discounted accessories (floor mats, roof racks, mud flaps, window tinting), reduced or waived fees, free loaner during car service, free roadside assistance, and price protection guarantees.
We were impressed by the level of detail The Negotiator offered, and it was simple to ask follow-up questions on specific strategies. Best of all, it's free to use—so why not give it a try? While The Negotiator can't do the actual face-to-face bargaining for you, it makes sure you go in fully prepared to get the very best deal.
AI Creative Pursuits
We have to admit – AI music generators are improving with each passing week. Soon, we might not be able to distinguish a human-created song from one crafted by AI.
We've been experimenting with Udio, a music creation platform that was launched publicly in April and is currently in beta. Developed by veterans from Google DeepMind, Udio offers both web and desktop versions.
How it works:
Flexible creation: You can give Udio a simple prompt and let the AI handle everything from the melody to the lyrics, or you can customize the details yourself.
Dual output: For each song, Udio produces two versions, allowing you to choose which one to refine further.
Full package: The platform goes beyond basic backing tracks by generating complete lyrics.
We tested it with a prompt for a '90s grunge song about pumpkins exploding. The result? "Embers in the Night," a surprisingly catchy track with hilarious lyrics:
"Pumpkins burst, scattered across the night
Colors clash, painting the autumn sky
Leaves fall down, memories ignite
Your hand in mine, we're lost in twilight"
Udio lets you share your creations (non-commercial use) directly or download them as videos. You can even customize the cover art. The platform's homepage features a song library curated by Udio's community. A few highlights: "Don’t Want To Be Left Alone" (80s rock), "Carolina-O" (Country Pop), and "Shadows of Desire" (rhythmic soul).
Udio squares off against OpenAI’s Suno, which offers a limited free plan (50 credits or about 10 songs daily), while Udio allows up to 600 free songs per month.
Both platforms are facing legal challenges as the music industry alleges copyright infringement on a “massive scale.” This battle is likely to intensify, but for now, we think the creativity unleashed by AI is just getting started.
